Support Learning AND Activism Seattle Youth Safe Space believes that it is vital for all students to have access to quality academic assistance - especially students in our most marginalized communities. We know that academic improvement is connected to personal responsibility and feeling a part of something bigger. SYSS strives to meet both requirements: one-on-one direct academic support AND opportunities for safe and organized community engagement for kiddos most often lacking such opportunities. We give priority to neurodiverse, queer, and BIPOC families through scholarships, outreach, bus passes, tuition exchanges, and volunteering opportunities.
Youth Voices are Powerful Seattle Youth Safe Space's core belief is that kids have a powerful voice and unique perspective on current events, local problems, and global challenges. Our mission is to bring those voices to the forefront of community engagement while supporting positive and safe academic support.
We make the following promises to our community:
We promise to provide the best teacher-lead tutoring at the lowest cost possible.
We promise to interact and maintain positive relationships with the community we serve.
We promise to create a truly safe and welcoming environment to our community of learners and caregivers.
We promise to be advocates for our queer, neurodiverse, and BIPOC youth members, whether through referrals to other organizations, being a discrete listener, or facilitating community discussions and interactions.
We promise to regularly create the opportunity for direct peer-to-peer or tutor-to-peer interactions, in-person as social-distancing allows, and online whenever we cannot gather in-person.
We promise to donate a portion of our monthly surplus revenue to a different community organization or individual in need.
